Description
This is an acrylic painting I did for our portrait project. I was happy to be moving on from still-lives and landscapes, since people are my favorite thing to draw. Working with a black layer to paint over was very challenging, since I was essentially working backwards. This took around a week to complete, mostly through waiting for layers to dry. Taking a photo of the painting to post was a little tricky, but this looks closest to how the painting looks. The reactions I got from this, especially from my professor, made me incredibly ecstatic.
Because I love drawing Christopher Lloyd, I painted from a scene from one of my favorite films of his, "Good Ghouls gone Bad." I not only liked the aesthetics of it, but liked the mood being shown when his character is talking to his grandson about what he wished he could have done differently. I edited the contrast and colors first, since the originals looked too bright, plus heavy shadows is always fun for me. I don't really like painting from one reference, but at least for my next painting, it's something I drew out first.

I might like working with acrylics better than oil paints, but it's all wonderful for me to explore
